Selecting ballast

What ballast is best?
Beach sand, crushed walnut shells, and store-bought ballast — I tried them all. Watch the results and discover which materials and methods gives the most realistic look for HO-scale track..
Ballasting en meter H0-track requires about 70 milliter ballast. This means that a large amount of material is needed for a larger layout, so it may be a good idea to choose carefully before you start buying materials.
